116. 8 pounds today. It was a beautiful day in Cincinnati and we spent it boating with family and friends. While I did not do any specific cardio; I did swim a lot off and on throughout the day. Activity and being outdoors are essential for me. They are stress relievers and help me to relax. I have been extremely active all my life but after the first 50 pounds I began to plateau. In order to get out of the rut I began working out quite frequently. It was grueling for awhile, almost 6 out of 7 days a week I was doing some sort of exercise. Usually my routine consisted of 4 days working out to a Tae Bo video and 2 days of power walking or hiking with my dogs. Now that I have hit my "goal" weight I am less stringent about how many days I work out. Now it is only about 3 days a week. 1 day I try to do a work out video, another a bike ride or power walking, and the third day hiking. I noticed high intensity hills were particularly great for burning calories and helping my weight loss. The biggest lesson I have learned is to not get stuck in too much of a routine. Varying up exercise has really helped me lose and maintain my weight. Doing things you love that help keep you active such as swimming, tennis, biking, kick boxing, or even just walking the dog can help keep you on track. It is important to have these things you enjoy in order to be motivated. If you set goals it is easier to work towards accomplishing them, which we will discuss in tomorrow's blog...
